Arkansas has a varied landscape of plains, mountains, forests, rivers, cattle farms, industrial centres and oil wells. The main claims to fame of this State are the beauty of its outdoors and that former President Bill Clinton was the Governor in Little Rock before moving to the White House – there are museums and exhibits dedicated to his life. One of Arkansas’ earliest settlements, Little Rock is a thriving place filled with museums, art exhibitions and parks. Attractions include the Decorative Arts Museum; River Market District; the Governor’s Mansion; Historic Arkansas Museum; Arkansas Arts Center; and the Museum of Discovery.

Arkansas is contained in the east by the Mississippi River. Most of the eastern third of the state lies within the Delta of this great river. This is a flat, sediment covered area that is cut by the White, Arkansas and Ouachita Rivers. Public lands in Arkansas total close to three million acres. National and state-administered facilities pervade all regions of Arkansas. The northwestern region of the state is known as the Ozarks Region and lies north of Interstate 40. The area contains most of Ozark National Forest and the Boston Mountain Range.

Recreation in Arkansas varies with the landscape. The lands provide hiking, biking, boating, fishing, and camping facilities. Opportunities for fishing are accessible in every region of the state at private and public facilities.
